Ring in 2010 with clear and clutterless mind and home

2010 is here and along with it comes the commitments of losing those last 15 pounds or to stop smoking or a number of different things called “my New Year’s resolution”. Now to successfully move ahead and achieve those 2010 commitments that we have made, there needs to be a starting point. So lets begin with the place that gives us the most comfort, our home.

Start the year off right and declutter that room in your home that you have meant to sort out for the past couple of months. A clutterless home leads to a clear mind and will help you focus on reaching your goals.
Start out with one room, try the room that you spend the most time in. To help you decide on where to start, ask yourself this question: “Is there a room in your house that is so cluttered that you feel overwhelmed when you enter it?” Whatever your answer is, is the room that you will tackle.

Once you have decided on a room, set aside a day where you can commit at least 3-4 hours of undisturbed time. Take the phone off the hook, turn off your cell phone and if you have kids, send them off for a family visit outside of the home. Here are some instructions to help you get through your de-cluttering day.

Instructions:

1. Get 2 large boxes, some garbage bags and cleaning supplies.
2. Label one box “Need to Keep”, the other box “Donations” and the garbage bags are for garbage.
3. If you will need the item in the next 4 weeks put the item in the need to keep box.
4. If you don’t really need it but it’s too good to throw away, put in the donations box.
5. If you have not looked at or used the item in the past 4 months place in the donations box or in the garbage
6. Start at one side of the room and as you place items into the appropriate boxes clean that area as well.
7. As garbage bags get filled up, close them up and put them in the garage or down the chute right away.
8. Once you have made your way through the room and it is now clean go back to your Need to Keep box and place those items back in an organized and easy to find manner
9. Do one last overall vacuum.
10. Drop off your donations or make arrangements for them to be picked up right away.
11. Sit down in your now clutterless room and take a deep breath, you did a great job!

With a de-cluttered home you are now on your way to thinking clearly, planning clearly and acting on those 2010 New Years resolutions.

Signing off with Panache,

Karen D
